Your 6 a.m. alarm goes off, the one you set after watching a handful of "easy workout routine" TikToks that got you motivated to get your health + wellness in check! But that triggering alarm sound just makes you want to hit snooze and skip the gym. We get it, and we've certainly been there, babe. Luckily, we've got a few tricks up our sleeve and a list of our favorite workout/motivational essentials to help you feel good and motivated to stick with your workout routine... even when you're just not feeling it!
Creating + Adjusting to a Habit
First and foremost, it's important to remember that creating a habit is key when trying to stick with anything, especially working out! Try setting your alarm for the same time every day so your body gets into the groove of things. Even if you aren't going straight to the gym, being up at that time can help your body adjust and make it much easier over time!
If you find yourself struggling on certain days, try breaking up your workout routine into smaller parts. For example, if you only have 30 minutes to spare but were hoping to do a full hour-long workout, try splitting it up into two 15-minute sessions instead, once in the morning and once at night. You'll still be getting in some exercise and it's better than nothing at all! Your body is very habitual, most things you do because it's just a part of your daily routine and you don't even think twice about it, like brushing your teeth or washing your face. Before you know it, you'll find yourself hitting the gym out of second nature.
Staying Motivated
It can be tough to stay motivated when you're just not feeling it, but thankfully there are a few things that can help! Try focusing on the positive aspects of working out. For example, maybe you feel more energized after a workout or your mood is better overall. If you can think of some other reasons why working out is beneficial to you, write them down and refer to them when you need a little extra push.
Don't let your hard work go unnoticed! Treat yourself after accomplishing your goals (you decide what that means to you!) and reward yourself for reaching them! For example, maybe after 2 successful weeks of working out, you buy one thing from your Amazon Wish List, get a new water bottle, or take yourself out to dinner! Having that reward to work towards can help you stay focused and keep you on track. Not to mention, it's a total serotonin boost 🛍
Additionally, staying connected with your workout buddies can make all the difference. Knowing that someone is waiting for you at the gym or studio can help keep you accountable and stay on track. On another note, if mornings aren't your thing but that's when you'd ideally prefer to work out, do your future self a favor and prep the night before! Lay your cute workout set out, have your water bottle filled, and breakfast ready to go for an easy morning start - and maybe write yourself a little motivational note, say your affirmations, and remind yourself why you're doing this. (Be your own biggest fan!)
Keeping Up With a Routine
Finally, if you find yourself struggling to keep up with your workout routine, it's important to take a step back and analyze what might be getting in the way. Maybe you're trying to do too much too soon or maybe your goal isn't realistic for you right now. If that's the case, try adjusting your goals until they feel more manageable. And if something comes up last minute and you can't make it to the gym, try not to beat yourself up about it! Just make sure to schedule a time for your next workout and get back on track.
