Sometimes, centering your routine on a specific skin goal is the way to go. One of the more popular ones is anti-aging, or those looking to combat fine lines, wrinkles, and other marks of time. And while we are certainly advocates of embracing age, we've got some go-to's to do so gracefully. Our favorite ingredient for this purpose is bakuchiol, and in this blog post we'll take you through the best anti-aging routine out there.

Bakuchiol is a natural plant-based alternative to retinol and has been shown to help soften fine lines and wrinkles, improve tone and texture, and even skin pigmentation making your skin appear more radiant and youthful. Unlike retinol, bakuchiol overflows with antioxidants, (you know these babies as your skin's bouncers, keeping free radicals at bay). It's most frequently used in skin care to reduce the visible signs of aging. Its antibacterial properties make it also an effective defense against acne and breakouts, perfect for those with a more uneven skin tone. Because of its gentler effect on the skin cells, many people prefer using bakuchiol anti aging products instead of harsher, retinol-based/retinoic acid ones.

What Aging Skin Needs

Aging skin needs a few key things: hydration, exfoliation, and antioxidants.

Hydration comes in many forms but the most important is water - both internally and externally. Drink lots of water every day and use products that help your skin lock in moisture like hyaluronic acid.

Regular exfoliation is key to anti-aging because it helps to remove dead skin cells that can make your complexion appear dull and your skin texture uneven. Use a gentle exfoliator a few times per week - we recommend our superfruits face scrub! You want that cleanse without disrupting your skin barrier.

Antioxidants are powerhouses when it comes to anti-aging because they help to protect your skin from damage caused by free radicals. In addition to using products with bakuchiol, using anti-aging products with other antioxidants like vitamin C, green tea, and pomegranate in your anti aging skincare routine can help keep your skin looking its best.

The Routine

Step 1: The Cleanser

Cleanser is more-so based around your skin type, not necessarily to combat aging. So, that's up to you! Have oily or acne prone skin? We recommend our superfruits & sea kelp face wash for tackling excess oil and blemishes. If your skin is sensitive dry, a gentle cleanser like the foaming face wash might be the right fit as to not disrupt your skin barrier. In any case, you always want to make sure you're starting with a clean slate in your anti aging skincare routine.

Step 2: Get Toned

After you've cleansed your skin, it's time to tone. This step is important for anti-aging because it helps to even out the skin's surface and prepare it for the next steps. It also helps with any inflammation or redness. For this routine, we recommend our bakuchiol toner. Just a few spritzes on a cotton pad or directly to the face will do ya.

Step 3: Smooth On Some Serum

Now it's time for the bakuchiol serum! This is a concentrated anti-aging product that should be applied to the face and neck after toning. A little goes a long way with this one, so start with just a few drops. You can always add more if needed.

Step 4: Bring on the Bakuchiol Face Moisturizer

The final step in your anti aging skin care routine is moisturizer, and this is where our bakuchiol face cream comes in. Apply it to your face and neck, being sure to avoid the eye area. This will help keep your skin hydrated and plump - not to mention giving you a healthy glow.

 Our other recommendation for your anti aging skincare routine is the anti-aging hydration cream. It's made with aloe vera, argan oil, and jojoba oil to promote skin elasticity and healthy cellular structure.

Step 5: Eye Cream

Another important part of an anti aging skincare routine is the eye cream. As you age, your under eyes tend to get drier and the delicate skin more prone to fine lines, which is where eye creams come into the picture. A recent favorite among our team has been the hyaluronic acid eye gel. It's a solid choice for hydrating and brightening the under eye area.

Other Anti-Aging Best Practices

In addition to your daily routine, there are a few other things you can do for anti-aging.

-Wear sunscreen! Sun protection is a one anti-aging advice for a reason. It's so important to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, and broad spectrum spf does just that. Not only does it prevent wrinkles and fine lines, but it also helps to prevent skin cancer and other forms of sun damage.

-Get enough sleep! When you don't get enough shut eye, it shows on your skin. You might get dark circles or bags under your eyes, and your skin will look dull and tired. Getting eight hours of sleep a night is ideal, but we know that's not always possible. Just do the best you can!

-Eat healthy! Just like the rest of your body, your skin benefits from a healthy diet. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables will give you a natural glow and more youthful looking skin.
