7 of the Worst Things You're Doing To Your Hair

ESTIMATE 4-MINUTES READ

Bad hair days are the worst. But sometimes, it's not just the weather that's to blame. Sometimes, it's our own bad habits that are causing our hair to look lackluster. In this blog post, we will discuss seven of the worst things you're doing to your hair. If you're guilty of any of these practices, it's time to make a change for healthier hair!

Bad Hair Habits - What Might Be Keeping You From Healthy Hair

Cleaning Hair Too Often

One of the worst things you can do to your hair is over-wash it. Washing your hair too often can strip it of its natural oils, leaving it dry and brittle. If you find that you're washing your hair every day, try cutting back to every other day, or even once a week.

Using Hot Water to Wash

Another bad habit is using hot water when you wash your face or shower. While hot showers may feel good on a cold winter day, it's not doing any favors for your skin or hair. Hot showers can strip away the natural oils in your skin, leaving it feeling dry and irritated. It can also cause damage to the proteins in your hair, leading to split ends and breakage. So next time you hop in the shower, turn down the temperature a notch or two. Your hair and skin will thank you!

If you absolutely can't give up your steamy shower (we feel you, girl), you can instead do a final rinse with cold water to close your hair cuticle.

Blow Drying Everyday

Do you love nothing more than a good blowout? We get it, there's nothing quite like feeling your hair sleek and smooth after a trip to the salon. But if you're blow drying your hair every day, you're doing serious damage. Blow drying is one of the most damaging things you can do to your hair, as it strips away moisture and can leave it feeling dry and brittle. If you absolutely must use a hair dryer, make sure to use a heat protectant spray beforehand, and try to keep the heat on the lowest setting possible. The same goes for other hot tools, as well!

Brushing Wet Hair Strands

Another bad habit is brushing your hair while it's still wet. When your hair is wet, it's in its weakest state and is more susceptible to hair breakage and hair loss. So instead of reaching for a brush the next time you step out of the shower to pull wet hair, grab a wide tooth comb and gently detangle your locks. Your hair will thank you for it!

Using Products With Parabens & Sulfates

If you're using products that contain parabens and sulfates, you're doing serious damage to your hair. These ingredients can strip away the natural oils in your hair, leaving it feeling dry and lifeless. So next time you're at the store, take a look at the labels on your favorite products and make sure they're free of these harmful ingredients. We love our dry shampoos and hair texturizing spray because they have all the styling prowess, free from parabens, sulfates, and other toxins.

Skipping Trims

If you're trying to grow your hair out, you may be tempted to skip trims. But trust us, getting regular trims is essential if you want healthy, long hair. Trimming away split ends and damaged hair will help prevent further damage and breakage, so make sure to schedule a trim every six to eight weeks.

Not Drinking Enough Water

Finally, one of the worst things you can do for your hair is not drink enough water. Just like our skin and nails, our hair needs water to stay healthy and strong. So make sure you're drinking plenty of H20 each day!

These are just a few of the bad habits that could be damaging your hair. If you're guilty of any of these, make a change today! Your hair will thank you for it. And now, let's get into some healthier product options to help you along the way.
