Understanding Your Natural Oils

Babe, STOP washing your hair so often!

✋🏽A common misconception about hair care is that you need to shampoo every day.

In reality, this strips the natural oils your hair produces (and it needs!).

When you get your hair wet, you're telling your scalp that it's dry and it needs to produce more oil, leaving you with greasy hair.

4 Tips to Help You Stop Washing Your Hair Daily

Here are some oh-so-practical tips on how to extend the time in between washes and flourish your hair's natural beauty and vibrancy.

Tip 1: Extend the time between washings by a few days.

Embrace your natural oils and start to train your hair to only be shampooed at most, every other day. Sure, it's a little scary at first, but we know you've got this! Your hair will totally thank you for it. The best way to slow down the hair-washing pace is to start a little at a time.

Just skip a day in between washing your hair for a while. Transitioning your hair care routine from daily to every other day can have a huge impact on your hair's strength and luster.

After a few weeks of every other day washes, your scalp will calm down all of that oil production.

It's been producing oils like crazy because you keep washing them away. Every time you shampoo your doo, you're telling your scalp, "Hey, it's DRY OVER HERE! Make more oil!"

Yup, you've guessed it. This starts a vicious cycle of you seeing oily hair and washing it, causing your scalp to make more oil, causing you to wash it more frequently, and all of a sudden, you're in a hair-based zero-sum game.

So don't go into that dark, doom loop. Quit the daily washes, and commit to a tiny bit of discomfort until your poor, over-worked scalp gets the message. For most of us, this process shouldn't take more than a few weeks. Then you can transition to a 2-days or longer unwashed cycle.

Tip 2: Use an organic dry shampoo (powder-based) to clean hair and reduce oils in between washings.

So now that you're all-in for transitioning away from daily hair-washing, you might need a little help getting that oil under control. One of the best ways to do this is by snagging some BBE Dry Shampoo. This gently-automatic powder dry shampoo slays greasy oils like nobody's business! OILY HAIR, it's OVER!

It's so easy to use, too. Just dab on your part in between washings to keep excess oil in check.

Tip 3: Use a boar bristle brush to distribute natural oils throughout your hair

One of the best ways to increase the amount of time between hair washes is by using a Boar Bristle Brush. The boar hair uniquely grabs the oils from your scalp and evenly distributes them throughout your hair.

This means you're getting more out of your hair's natural conditioning mechanisms and you don't even have to leave your bedroom. Shoot, you can watch Netflix and brush, brush, brush away.

Tip 4: Brush your hair from the back of your head upward by flipping your hair over and starting at the base of your neck.

Grab your Boar Bristle Brush and flip your hair upside down. Start brushing from the root to the end of your hair, paying special attention to the nape of your neck. This distributes your natural oils and keeps them from building up around your part.

We recommend brushing this way daily to get the best possible results for your hair. You'll see increased strength, vibrance, and growth (since those pesky split ends won't be showing up in this town any longer).
