Which ingredients are in your self tanners?
The active ingredient in our self tanners is DHA, a sugar derivative that gives the top layer of the skin a bronzed glow. Non-GMO and overflowing with plant-based goodness.
Depending on which formula you choose, you'll find DHA backed up by powerful natural ingredients such as organic aloe vera leaf juice (for luscious hydration), organic shea butter (for maximum moisturization), and organic pomegranate and cranberry extract (because who doesnโt love a bit of fruitiness in their self tanner?).

What shade of tan will this give? Light, medium or dark?
These tanners are buildable, meaning for most people, the first application will give you a light tan. If you desire a darker tan, simply reapply it again the following day and so on until you reach the desired color. Once you have the color you were after, simply reapply every 4-5 days to maintain the tan. Be sure to wait about 5-8 hours before going in water after applying for optimal results! ๐
Which formula should I choose? Fair to Medium or Medium to Dark?
The Fair to Medium self tanners are perfect for people with pink or cool undertones, fair skin, or those looking for a very subtle tan. Not sure if this is you? You will likely want this formula if you burn easily, freckle, or see blue or purple tinted veins when you look at the underside of your wrist.
The Medium to Dark self tanners are perfect for those with neutral, olive, or warm undertones or people looking for a deeper tan. If you tan really easily or if your veins are greenish or invisible when you look at the underside of your wrist, this is likely the formula for you.
The Ultra Dark self tanners are perfect for those with warm skin tones or who tan really easily. If you rarely freckle or burn and have medium to dark hair, this is likely the formula for you.
As always our dye-free self tanners can be used by any skin tone, youโll just need to pick your level of tan and which version works best with your gorgeous undertones to create your ideal tan!
(Note: For reference, if youโre an avid Beauty By Earth fan, our original self tanner lotion is considered Medium to Dark. So if this tanner worked great for you, so will our other medium-dark varieties!)
Are these self tanners safe to use while pregnant?
Yes, our self tanners are perfectly safe for pregnancy.
With all things pregnancy-related, however, we recommend bringing up any doubts or concerns you have with your doctor or midwife. They are best-situated to know your specific health needs and determine what's best for you and your little one.
Do I need to wear sunscreen while using these tanners?
Our self tanners do not contain SPF ingredients. That's why it's very important that you apply sunscreen on your body whenever you go out into the sun.
Are these self tanners water-proof?
For best results, we recommend no contact with water for several hours after applying the product. Water can dilute or wash off the tanner which will give you less striking results.
How long does the tan last?
We canโt pinpoint the exact number of days โ that will vary based on your application method, skin type, and how often you reapply. Many of our customers who have left self tanner reviews report that their tan lasted 5-7 days.
How do I extend the life of my self tan?
Take the time to apply it right โ exfoliate first, be generous with the amount you use, and use a self tanning mitt. We find that we can extend the life of our tan by sticking to warm (not hot) showers and by moisturizing daily.
Is your self tanner lotion organic?
While it is not certified organic, our natural self tanner is made up of 81% water and certified organic ingredients, the other 19% are naturally derived ingredients and it does not include any potentially harmful additives.
